Shilin publishes its academic journal twice a year, featuring exceptional theses and works by BA and MA students in and around the field of China Studies. These works are either submitted by ambitious students themselves, or suggested by lecturers who consider the piece to be of such an academic quality it should be published in Shilin. The papers then go through several rounds of peer review and selection. Shilin is unique in this respect; the journal is by students, for students, but functions as a truly professional and academic journal. Moreover, Shilin is published independently and all Shilin board members are co-editors in their respective fields of research.
